Real Estate Licensing Requirements

SALES LICENSE

  • Must be at least age 18
  • Must complete an approved 72-hour course
  • Must pass a State of WI exam
  • Must send all necessary paperwork and fees to the Dept. of Safety and Professional Services, State of WI

BROKERS LICENSE

  • Must be at least age 18
  • Must have held a sales license for at least two years and must have actively worked for a broker in two of the last four years
  • Must have accumulated at least 40 points while working under a broker in two of the past four years. Points are earned as follows:
  • Each residential sale closing = 5 points
  • Each commercial sale closing = 10 points
  • Each 12 month lease signed = .5 points/month of lease
  • Must have completed an approved 72-hour course for brokers
  • Must pass a State of WI broker’s exam
  • Must send all necessary paperwork and fees to the Dept. of Safety and Professional Services, State of WI

CONTINUING EDUCATION

  • All real estate licenses in WI expire Dec. 14 in the even numbered years
  • To renew your license all licensees must take 18 hours of approved continuing education classes
  • Proof of attendance must be submitted to the Department of Safety and Professional Services on their website
  • Complete all paperwork and pay the necessary fee for license renewal
  • Anyone getting a license prior to Oct. 1 of the even numbered year must complete continuing education to renew their license
